Have you ever experienced an earthquake while on the eighteenth floor of an old building? We did! And what an experience!
It happened on Sunday, August 23, 1998 at about 1:45 in the afternoon while we were on the air with our religious radio program. I remember that we had three guests. One of the guests was reading the Gospel for the day while Josie and our two other guests were listening. Suddenly, we felt our chairs moving and then…. the booth and the whole building was swaying….no more doubt, it was an earthquake!!!!
Spontaneously, Josie led the prayer of the Hymn of the Angels on the air, “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Hosts! Heaven and earth are filled with Your Glory. Glory to the Father, Glory to the Son, Glory to the Holy Spirit!” For more than five minutes we continued to pray….and then…PEACE.
Oh, what irony! The very question for reflection on that day was, “Are you ready to go home to the Father to be with Him forever?” What a test for all of us! One guest even said to God, ” Please, Lord, now I know I am not yet ready to face You.” On the other hand, my heart was telling God as I continuosly prayed, “Oh, Lord, I am sure You did not send us here, proclaiming Your love, goodness and mercy, only to die a horrible death. I trust! And yet, human that I am, I felt that it was the longest five minutes of my life.
Josie was crying as she announced our experience after the earthquake and she proclaimed the power of the Holy, holy, holy hymn. Everybody was tearful in gratitude for the love and mercy of God. We were all alive and joyful and yet still trembling because of the fearful experience. But the show must go on, so to speak, so we proceeded with our radio program.
Oh, this mighty hymn, sung by the choirs from heaven and the might of the Holy Church against the power of hell… Death shall never come to you, evil things shall pass away to the man who is pure of heart, the devil can never touch for God dwells in his heart.
Praises and glory to our Holy Triune God and praises to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, whose every beat echoes every word of our prayer of the heavenly hymn to the Most Holy Trinity, through Mary and in Mary’s Immaculate Heart!!!
